counting hits

  I understood that my return visits to reply to comments are not counted as hits which is what I prefer. But dashboard may list 58 visits for instance and to what posts but the hit count is much higher. So it seems my visits are counted as hits. Is this true ?

  When you have a public blog and you are logged in your visits are not recorded. If you have a private blog then your visits are recorded. http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/
