counting my views in my stats

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t know how long this has been going on, but it is clear to me that, currently, when I view my articles they are being counted as stat hits–as if they were being viewed by others. How to rectify this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Provided your are logged into wordpress.COM when you view your site yes indeed your visits are being recorded. See here https://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/

Yikes I said that backwards and I apologize.

If you are logged into to wordpress.COM when you view your public site, then your visits are not being recorded.

If you still have an issue type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for Staff help. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Then please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. • If you are logged into your WordPress.com account, your views are not counted in your stats. If you are not logged in, they would be counted.

Why do you think your own views are being counted?

If you are logged in and visit your site and see the count go up – could be that someone else is visiting your site at about the same time

No, I did a test by viewing 7 different articles and I got an additional 7 ‘views’ recorded for Sweden, where I live. I write in English and the great majority of views come from USA, maybe one day per week from Sweden.

I am always logged in. The problem started 3-4 days ago.

Thanks – that will help staff-ozmodiar with a few more questions and such

  • And you are sure that you were logged into the admin account the whole time? Are you using any sort of strict cookie security or settings? Are you using any sort of proxy server? (I’m just sort of brainstorming here)

  • I also noticed that your site had gotten caught in our automated anti spam net. I have fixed that issue. I’m not sure how/why that would have affected the stats situation, but you might do another test in 24 hours or so and let me know if there is a difference.

It is my account, so when I am logged in I assume this is the ‘admin account.’ In any case, how could I look at my stats without being logged in? As for security settings, nothing has changed recently in this regard, and the problem is no more than a week old. I will test the issue again tomorrow and get back to you. Thanks.

I just clicked on 8 articles in my pavellas.com blog and immediately showed 8 additional hits from Sweden where I live. This seems NOT to be happening with at one other of my 7 blogs.

  • Thank you for checking back in and testing again.

So here’s the issue, I’m not seeing any other reports of this happening. Nor can I see anything that was changed around the 22nd that would be causing it. I’m not saying that it is impossible that what you are describing is happening, I’m just saying that it is really difficult for me to look into without more information or additional reports.

What browser are you using? Do you have any plugins or browser extensions running? Could you do your same test with a different browser?

This same issue is also happening to me and I’m very frustrated about it.

I use Chrome. I’ll try MSIE when I get a round tuit.

I am using my iPhone app to connect to WordPress. I’m logged in on it and it says I am under admin. Yet every single time I get on, it keeps jumping up in views, but it says it’s only from one visitor. It’s only 1:00 in the morning and it says one person has already viewed my blog almost 40 times since it started the new day at about 6:00 pm earlier (I also don’t know why it starts the new day at that time when it’s not even the next day yet). I HIGHLY doubt that someone has been sitting around updating my blog over and over since then, so it has to be me who it’s counting. I am so angry with WordPress that I’m ready to delete my account because you all do not make it easy at all to contact if someone actually needs help.

Ok I got a round tuit. I couldn’t locate MSIE on my hard drive, so I installed Firefox. The problem seems not to exist with Firefox. I immediately went to CHROME and tried again and, yepp, the problem seems to be only with Chrome.

  • @pavellas

The fact that it does not occur with FF makes me think that it is a Chrome issue or perhaps Chrome plugin/extension issue.

  • @clairerobinsonnn

Are you using the most recent version of the app?

  • Unknown's avatar

I am not familiar with all the terminology. Please tell me precisely what to do.
