Country of origin not showing correctly

  • Unknown's avatar

I have several likes on recent blogs that are clearly from other countries than my home country however they are all showing as coming from Australia. Previous posts have shown various countries correctly. What could be the reason for this?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

Could you tell us a bit more about this so we can be more helpful: What specific stats are you looking at that seem to be questionable? How many posts has this been the case for? Why they seem to be from another country?

    Thanks!
    Kind regards,
    Jason

    Hi Lillian,

Is lillib7.wordpress.com this site you need help with? I’m not seeing anything out of line on that site.

If it’s another site please provide a link to that site and answer as many as Jason’s questions as possible.

    Thanks!

Hello all, thank you for replying, I am quite new to this. Sorry for the confusion, the site I need help with is this one
    https://ibakesharelove.wordpress.com/
Up until 25/6 It would show the various countries of the people who have liked the post. Now, even though some of the people liking my post say they are from London, Netherlands etc it shows that only people from Australia have viewed the site, which I dont think is right. The Stats are on the stats page on day or week view under country. Am I interpreting these stats incorrectly. Thank you for your help.

Hmm… Ok, one thing to try. Someone from staff like @bdukes might need to help you on this one, but have you tried clicking on the specific day or week that is in question? You’ve probably done that already, but that would ensure that you are looking at the exact data for that day. Click on the day or week from in the graph that appears in the top left of the stats page and the countries tab below should adjust for whatever day, week, or month that you click on. Try to correlate that with when you got those comments from the people on London and elsewhere and see if there is still a discrepancy.

    Sorry I couldn’t help more!

    Kind regards,
    Jason

    Hi Lillian ,

I have just taking a look at your stats for the past couple of days. What I’ve notice is that for yesterday and today you have 7 views from 1 visitor who is in AU.

Could you give a specific post we could look at to help determine views vs visitors?

Hi and thank you again Jason,

Yes I had tried all those things previously, my son who is much more familiar with WordPress is also stumped. I may have to try and contact staff.

    Thank you for your help
    Kind regards

    Hi Lillian,

Sorry for the delay, I just heard back from our data team and think I may know what’s happening here. Views and likes made in the reader are not counted. Nor are views made by staff or users (admins and authors) on the site.

What is likely happening is that the visitors are visiting your site either in a feed reader or the WordPress.com Reader. As such, those views are not being counted or shown in the stats.

If you have any other questions let us know :)

Oh fantastic, thank you so much for going to the trouble of finding that out for me. That was very generous of you.

    Regards
