Coursera Training – how to create a website using WordPress
-
I signed up for the Coursera WordPress Course which is telling me that I should already have an account with WordPress and if I don’t to set one up. I started to set up, but step 2 is asking me to provide a domain address?? Am I going to be charged for this domain address just for training? Is there fees for the domain address? If yes/no, how do I determine what the domain name should be?
Ultimately I was taking this course so I would feel comfortable taking over as a webmaster for a non-profit which has an account already.

Hi there,
On the domains step, look for the example.wordpress.com address in the list. This should be visible the moment that page loads, before you type anything into the search box.
That address is free for you to use with the site you create here.
If you do want a custom domain for your site, that is a paid upgrade, and requires a paid plan on WordPress.com. Your domain can be whatever you want it to be – it will ultimately be a key piece of your online brand, how your site will be known on the web.
Am I going to be charged for this domain address just for training?
The training course you signed up with has nothing to do with us. For any questions about the requirements for the course, please contact the folks who created and present it directly.
