Cover Block Alignment Option Missing

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hey,

Working on test site, using new full site editing content & features. The Cover Block toolbar, I’m missing the alignment as shown here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/cover-block/#alignment

All I see for the Cover Block toolbar is: https://i.imgur.com/b1i4Fvm.png

And unrelated note, is it a known issue with the full site editor preview, showing block/placements of objects different to the live site. Example image is centred in live site but shown showing to the left in the editor?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there

The Cover Block toolbar, I’m missing the alignment

When using the Editor, try first adding a Group block, then add the Cover block inside the Group block to get the alignment option to display.

is it a known issue with the full site editor preview, showing block/placements of objects different to the live site. Example image is centred in live site but shown showing to the left in the editor?

Good question. Have an example you can point us to, or perhaps a screenshot or two you can share with us to demonstrate?

Thanks for the information on the Cover Block Alignment.

And for the second issue, here is a example from the test site, a few differences between the editor and actual site:

    • Image cover block is full width but showing white space on each side.
    • Plumbob image is aligned centred but in preview editor is left aligned.
    • The 2 Media & Text Blocks are full width and are shown correctly on live site, but in editor they’re shown as half width and not full width of page.

    Hi there!

Thanks for the screenshot. Could you share the link to the actual page on the site where we can see this? Sometimes these are theme specific, and looking at the actual page where the issue occurs helps us troubleshoot better.

    Thanks!

Certainly, it’s the home page of the test site here is the link https://test0027.wordpress.com/

  • Hi there,

After taking a closer look it appears this is an issue that our developers will need to look at. To confirm, the appearance on your homepage is correct and the issue is that the appearance in the site editor is confusing since it does not reflect the fact that the block is intended to be full width.

If so, in the meantime you may need to evaluate changes by saving the template and the viewing on the live homepage. We will update you as soon as we know more. Thanks!

That’s is correct, everything seen on the homepage on live site is correct and how I would like the site too look like. Just within the preview editor some blocks/elements do not reflect that.

Thank you for looking into this and will continue to use the workaround of saving and reviewing changes on live homepage.

@staff-totoro @deancroyal An update on the editor issue, today something seems to be completely broken/changed. Within the editor preview all text fonts have changed now completely different to the live site. As well as an issue with a duotone filter for an image was set to black is now being shown as white.

Preview of the Site Editor & Duotone Filter Settings in Site Editor

    Preview of Live Site

An issue with the fonts have now all changed in the preview site editor and don’t match the live site at all, wasn’t an issue yesterday or this week, seems something changed here today. And also today the Gamesplanet logo in footer is showing white rather than black?

Thanks for the information – we passed it along to the developers. We’ll be back in touch once we have more information to report.
