I am trying to move a site from wordpress.com to a private server. The normal xml export file results in much of the blog not transferring. The folks at bluehost suggest getting an .sqr data base from wordpress for export/ import. How can I do that?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The normal xml export file results in much of the blog not transferring.

WordPress.com is a multiuser blogging platform and we do not have access to the database. We don’t need it to export our blog content and links out. The XML file does not and cannot contain the theme which is not exportable or the contents in text widgets which must be copied and pasted. Your links must be exported and imported separately.

Note: This will ONLY export your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags; uploads and images may need to be manually transferred to the new blog. The current version of the WordPress.org installation gives you the option to import uploaded files, but the blog you are importing from must be live and serving images properly in order for it to work. So, do not delete your blog until after media files have successfully been imported into the new blog.

If you are planning to export your content to another blog platform, it’s best to download and save your images from your WordPress.com Media Library before trying to import/upload them into the new blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/#export-your-content-to-another-blog-or-platform

When you import that XML file into your WordPress.org install you will see the option to include “attachments”.
