Create a Free Site
-
How do I create a free site that just has mytitle.wordpress.com (‘mytitle’ being the domain name of my site)? I am in the sign up, and get to the part with domains, and all of them are the paid ones. I can’t find the normal wordpress ones. Are they discontinued?

Something is very wrong with the website. I tried in both Chrome and Firefox, but they weren’t giving me the option for the free domain. I downloaded the Android app and was able to sign up for the free domain with that.

Hi there,
There was bug that was preventing some users from creating free sites. The bug should be fixed now – when try to launch a site again, you should be able to see an option to skip purchase and create a site with the free plan. Please let me know if you still don’t see that option or you have any questions.
Thanks!

Apparently, the bug has returned. I am unable to create a wordpress.com site. It is giving me the option for a free “.travel.blog” site, but my site is NOT a travel site…
-
Ok. That option is being dictated by what you chose in the previous steps. Just type the desired free address in to the search bar. For example,
.home.blog -
Hi, I am having the same issue of not being able to create a simpoe free “xxx.wordpress.com” even by skipping purchase of whatever. This is the same for both the website and the app.
Even after choosing a random free “xxx.travel.co” domain, when i try to launch the site i was directed to select a domain, again. This time there are no free options.
Please advise..

Good Morning –
Even after choosing a random free “xxx.travel.co” domain,
What happens when you type the free domain in to the search box? Do you see any free examples given?

What happens when you type the free domain in to the search box? Do you see any free examples given
For example i put “hmmm” and “hmmm.music.blog” comes out free. I type “hmmm.wordpress.com” into the search bar – nothing.
Even if I chose “hmmm.music.blog”, when I want to launch the website, it asks me to choose a domain all over again, with no free option.
So.
The thing is, even if there were more free options, we’re not able to create a simple “xxx.wordpress.com” which is the frustrating part.

Choose “Business” rather than “Blog” when creating a free site. I’ve just tried it and received a hmmm42504281.wordpress.com subdomain. I could edit the address to remove all or most numbers.
PS: Just make sure that after clicking the “Launch site” button that you leave blank the field at the top that says “Enter a name or keyword”. Instead just click on “skip purchase” at the bottom right next to your new free address. -
Thanks for that @themagicrobot.
Folks, if you need more help, please let us know. We’ll also send in your feedback on this process.

After i click:
Not sure yet? Start with a free site at
https://wordpress.com/start/plans
It loops back to “Please enter a site name.”
How do I advance forward with a free site?

@vistalinks would you be willing to start all over in an incognito window at https://wordpress.com/free ? I have to think it’s got something saved from a previous attempt.
Choose Business if you’d like a .wordpress.com as opposed to a .blog address. We can help you change it to a blog afterward if you’d like.
