Create a free site option not showing
-
I want to create a free website on wordpress but the free option is not visible in my wordpress dashboard, I’m submitting this thread after several attempts of trying to create a free website. WordPress is only showing me paid options for whatever domain phrase I tried, can anyone help me with this issue.
-
Hi shiva,
Have a look at this thread to help you. The free option is there. Here are some visual instructions as well.

https://d.pr/i/LYCohfLet us know if you managed to do so or come back here for more questions.
Thanks. -
Checked that thread you shared but my issue still exists free option is not visible at all.
-
Hi Shiva,
Can you have a look at this screenshots to help you out. The 1st step is to create your domain name. They will also come up with some suggestions of paid names but the free option is right on top.

Then it will take you to the next page to choose a plan. Choose the free plan.

Lastly it will say, your site has been created, and you’ll need to launch it whenever you are ready. It you don’t launch it, your site will remain private. You can work on your site and launch it once you are ready.

I hope this screenshots will help you and let us know if you’re facing any more issues ok.
-
But the free option is not available in my dashboard when I enter the domain name I’m only getting paid options.
How can I share screenshots in here so that you can understand my issue?
-
Here are the screenshots now tell me what to do?
-
If you have already created a free site have you tried removing shivacharon from the top field. That may be the issue.
-
Don’t know what you are saying.
I want to create a free site I tried different versions of my name shivacharan I used numbers infront of my name nothing worked free option is not visible anywhere.
shivacharan.wordpress.com (This extension is not showing at all)
-
It only takes seconds to create a free site. https://wordpress.com/start/domains?ref=pricing-lp The screenshot you sent showed the top field with word in in. That field needs to be empty. Remove the word and refresh and if you have already created a site it will show below the two paid for options.
You can’t have https://shivacharan.wordpress.com/ as that site already exists created by someone in 2008. -
I know it only takes seconds because I already created 1 free site five years back and deleted it, now the option to create a free website is not available for me.
The thing is .wordpress.com extension is only not showing.
I know that someone purchased for just to make it clear I shared that link.
See even I tried with another name even then the .wordpress option is not showing.
-
Thanks for sharing those screen shots although it would be good to know the address in your browser address bar of the new site registration page you are on.
However, from your screenshots I find it curious that the .home.blog subdomain now seems to be a paid option. https://wordpress.com/blog/2018/11/28/announcing-free-dotblog-subdomains/
I’ve gone ahead and flagged this thread for Staff attention and assistance. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.
-
That is because the page you are on is after you have already created a site and clicked “launch”. As I said earlier the top field needs to be EMPTY.
-
I’m waiting for someone who can give some valid answers and tell me what to do. This conversation is just a conversation no informative thing for me to take anything from this. I’m waiting for the right answer.

Thanks for the tag @justjennifer, I’m not sure why you see the
.home.blogsubdomain as a paid one, shivacharan009. It’s an alternative to using the.wordpress.comone and it is free. If you choose that option and proceed to checkout with a free plan do you see a prompt to pay the registration fee? -
There is no free plan available in my dashboard, All the option which I can see right now are paid domains.
-
@shivacharan009 did you try following staff-mckluskey advice to click on the shivacharan.home.blog address option offered and see if there is a prompt to pay a fee? You obviously do not have to purchase, but it would be helpful to know.
-
I’ve created yet another free site to test this yet again as other people have experienced this issue before.
I click on “Launch Site”
On the next page I DON’T put anything in the box that says “Enter a name or keyword”
Instead I click on “skip purchase” at the bottom right of my offered free address.
Job Done.If I DO write anything in the “enter name or keyword” box I see the domains as per your screenshot.
I just don’t know how I can make myself any clearer. -
@justjennifer I clicked on this domain shivacharan.home.blog clicked on select option after clicking it got redirected to a page saying hooray your site will be ready shortly but then again it went back to the same page where I started. I shared the screenshots please take a look.
@themagicrobot In my dashboard, I can only find create site button there is not purchase site option. And, when I click on my site option on the top left corner I’m not getting any drop-down options. -
Hi @themagicrobot – the account shivacharan009 doesn’t have any site attached to it.
@shivacharan009 – could you log in to WPcom with a different browser to the one you are currently using and see if that makes any difference? Make sure you have 3rd party cookies enabled and no active browser extensions like ad blockers when you do. Let us know how that goes. -
Hi, @justjennifer I’m getting the same issue this time I tried with internet explorer but no difference. I think there is a problem with my wp dashboard may be bug issues I don’t know but I feel like when I click on my site it is showing this page https://wordpress.com/stats/day and when I click on purchase button it not redirecting to the cart page instead it is taking me back to the domain page where I need to enter domain name. Don’t understand what is the problem.
