Create a Gallery with only a selection of photos

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello,

I have uploaded all the pictures I want to use in my Post to the Media Gallery. I would like to create a ‘gallery’ whereby there are 3 photos in one row (ie three columns, one row, three pictures in total). However, when I create a gallery, all the photos that I have loaded into the Post’s Gallery are pulled into the post, whereas I only want three of them in this location.

Is there a way to create a row of 3 photos that does not pull in all photos in the Gallery?

I have tried various means and searched the forums but could not find anything.

    Thank you!

    Laura

    Hi.

    1. First take a look at this page:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/
    scroll down to “short code”

    2. read at the bottom of the table of instructions: “Exclude” and below how to get the “attachment ID”
probably easiest just to write the attachments on scrap paper or a notepad.

    3. To insert your gallery into a post:
switch to HTML code and put this Shortcode in:

    [ Gallery columns="3" exclude= "100,101,102"]

but replacing the numbers 100,101,102 with your attachment id that you wish to exclude. I just used those numbers above as examples.

then finished the post as you would usually do.

sorry, that code above should look like:
    …………………………………………………………………

    3. To insert your gallery into a post:
switch to HTML code and put this Shortcode in:

    ‘ [Gallery columns=”3″ exclude= “100,101,102”] ‘

    …………………………………

(that space between the bracket and “g” is a typo from me)

Or the include instead of the exclude option – depending on which one needs the fewer ID numbers.

Thank you for this help – I was able to use your code to create a gallery.

However, I can’t get the attachment IDs correct to include/exclude specific photos. I followed the guidance on the link above, tried the name when I hover, tried the titled, tried the upload name, tried the URL, but nothing pulls in the photos. Do you have any other advice on identifying the photo ID?

For example, when I look at the HTML, I can see a photo ID of ‘113,’ however, when I go to the media gallery, I don’t see 113 anywhere so I don’t know how to identify the attachment ID.

    Any tips?

    Thank you!!

Go to Media>Library; hover over the image title and you’ll see the image ID in the progress/status bar of your browser; or hover over the image title, click Edit, and you’ll see the image ID in the address bar of your browser.

But it’s not worth the trouble really, if the only purpose is is to display three images in a row. You can insert those three images as independent thumbnails, the one right after the other, and simply set their alignment to left. They’ll show up in a row, provided they’re small enough, of course.

Note: the default width for thumbnails (both for independent images and gallery images) can be changed in Settings>Media.
