Create a homepage which shows snippets of blog posts

    I’m trying to create a new blog from scratch, and want my blog’s static homepage to show a short snippet of each post alongside an image. I’d quite like this to be in a grid format.

    It seems to me that how you do this is determined by which theme you’ve chosen. I had a look at a few and chose Dyad – https://wordpress.com/themes/braintumourwarrior.wordpress.com/dyad – as it looks quite neat and the layout of boxes underneath the main header looks like what I’m after. But I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get a blog post to show up in one of those boxes on the homepage!!! I was hoping someone could either (a) help me figure out how to get a snippet of a post to show up on the homepage or (b) suggest a different free wordpress theme that you’re familiar with where you know how to do this??
