Hi there. If you set up a custom menu you can add external links directly to your blog’s menu. Instructions here:

Hi Kokhieh,
Thank you for your response.
I figured out how to create the external link. I was hoping to be able to create a direct forwarding link. I currently use a http://www.tinyurl.com/myteachersite address to give to my students to get to the site. I was hoping to have http://www.3rdcultureliving.com/esl to get to the site. (The site has a long address.)It doesn’t seem this is possible, so another follow up question.
What is “mapping” (or other term)? My other site is a google site. Is there a way to have is somehow become http://www.3rdcultureliving.com/esl as its root address?
I would love to be able to tie my sites together, but am not sure of the best way to do so.
Thank you,
Rob -
As far as I know there’s no limit to the length of the URL if you create a link in the custom menu. The actual link does not have to appear in the menu itself – you can change the label to whatever you want it. Then, if people click on that menu item, they get taken to the site itself. Or am I misunderstanding what you want to do?
Just look here again: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#adding-custom-links In the URL field, enter the full link, starting with http(s)://, of the page to which you want to direct your readers. In the Link Text field, type the description that must appear in the menu itself. Then, in the advanced options you can specify whether the other site must open in the same browser tab or if it should open a new browser tab.
Re. the mapping: that is what’s making your free WordPress.com address be replaced by 3rdcultureliving.com. Whether someone enters 3rdcultureliving.com or your WordPress.com address into their browser, they’ll always be taken to 3rdcultureliving.com, i.e. your WordPress.com address is being mapped (or pointed) at that domain.

You’re talking here about mapping to a sub-directory on your domain if I understand correctly.
You’ll have to enquire at google sites whether you can map that site to a sub-directory (3rdcultureliving.com/esl) or sub-domain (esl.3rdcultureliving.com) on 3rdcultureliving.com, as they are hosting that site.
