  • Hi there,

You are trying to set up a new site on your WordPress.com account, but instead of the free ‘wordpress.com” address you want it to appear at radicalcirclearts.com?

I see that this domain is registered with Dynadot currently, is that where you purchased it? If so you can set up a new site here and in the process of setting up your site you can enter the custom address when prompted: https://wordpress.com/start/

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

hi there – thank you. in the process of following the prompts I see that my domain RadicalCircleArts.com held by Dynadot is being transferred to wordpress. I have not completed this yet :

    • does this mean a third party will now hold the domain? and i pay renewals amounts to that party?
    • can i leave the domain with dynadot and point the domain to my wordpress site?
    • how do i do that?

    thanks!

  • Hi again,

in the process of following the prompts I see that my domain RadicalCircleArts.com held by Dynadot is being transferred to wordpress.

I can confirm that on this end we see that the transfer is “in progress” though we don’t have insight into how much longer that will take since we can only see the domain in detail when it is under our control. Typically domain transfers can take a few days (the process is automated) and once it is complete it will be possible to set your WordPress.com site to use that address.

does this mean a third party will now hold the domain? and i pay renewals amounts to that party?

In this case the domain will be under your account here on WordPress.com (we will be your “registrar” to use the official term) and you will renew here. By default we set the domain to auto-renew using your stored payment preferences, but we also email you so that you are clear on when that is happening.

can i leave the domain with dynadot and point the domain to my wordpress site?

Technically yes this is possible but only if you cancel the transfer, which you would need do on their side. We are not able to cancel incoming transfers.

That said, the transfer is free under your Personal plan, and when the transfer is complete we will also include a free year of registration (so you don’t have to renew until next year) so there is an added savings in transfering. Of course the other advantage is all your billing is consolidated here under one account, so you do not need to remember to pay domain renewal with another company.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    this is great info!

I paid for 4 years pre renewal with dynadot for my domain. So that doesnt roll over to wordpress? I will have to renew in a year? what are the rates for wordpress?

    Hi there!

When you transfer a domain to WordPress.com, we renew it for one more year. So whatever the domain’s current expiry date is, we add one more year to it when we transfer it to us.

However, I checked the WHOIS data of your domain and found that its expiry date is November 13, 2023. This most likely means that even though you paid for ‘pre-renewal,’ Dynadot hasn’t actually renewed the domain for four years. They probably have a system in place to automatically renew the domain close to the expiry date. We won’t grab those, so when we transfer, we’ll bump the current expiry of November 13, 2023, by one year.

You may want to contact Dynadot to get clarification from them about how it’s going to work. They might offer a refund or renew the domain before the transfer goes through.
