create a second website with the same domain

    Hello there,
    this is Rebecca. We have a site built on your platform log time ago which is still running.
    My plan now is to work on a new wordpress platform to create a new website for us but I would like to do it on the side till it’s not ready to be published and in the meantime I would like to maintain public our old website. Is this possible? How can I start building a new website with the same domain but that is not visible to the public till we decide?

    Thanks for that! Your site is not hosted with WordPress.com but instead a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted elsewhere.

    We cannot access files or data for sites that are hosted elsewhere, so WordPress.com staff can only assist with sites that are hosted on our servers. But, I can get you pointed in the right direction.

    It looks like your current site is hosted at Namecheap – you should reach out to them to see what your options are for setting up a staging site where you can build your new site.

    Or, if you want to host your new site here at WordPress.com, you certainly can get your site set up here before switching your domain over!

    When you sign up for a new site, we give you a free subdomain that you can use to start building your new site. Since your current site is running WooCommerce, the Business or eCommerce plan would be where you would want to get started.
