Create a site with a deleted site’s URL

  Hi! I’ve been looking to start a new project but, sadly, all the domains I’ve been thinking of have been abandoned years ago or deleted. I know I can’t claim the abandoned ones without the owners’ consent, but what about the deleted ones?

  For example, consider ‘abc’ is the domain name. When I access abc.wordpress.com it says ‘abc.wordpress.com is no longer available.’

  However, I can’t create a new blog called ‘abc.wordpress.com’. Is that possible or is there a problem on my end?

  Unfortunately, no you cannot use deleted site addresses. Please see https://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/

  This doesn’t have any bearing on the custom domain name you can buy if you upgrade, which separate from WordPress.com subdomains.

  You might also instead pick one of the new .blog subdomains instead, as there are other options newly available: https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2018/11/28/announcing-free-dotblog-subdomains/
