  why does ‘free’ mean $18 per month?

  Hi yyur1973,

  We offer the option to create a free site on WordPress.com, using an address containing “.wordpress.com” or a free .blog subdomain.

  Certain features like custom domains are only available through paid plans — which is likely to be the reason you are prompted to upgrade.

  i try to register address for my blog but how come i can not choose a FREE domain name “wordpress.com” ?

  i see only other domains (com, net, org) and extensions (blog, photos, shop etc)

  Please don’t post into threads created by other users.

  On the domains step, please search for only a key word, not a full domain, and you should see either a *.wordpress.com or a *.home.blog, or possibly some other *.something.blog options, depending on what options you chose in the first step asking what your site is about.
