Create excerpts for page (Hemingway theme)

    Hello,

    Having trouble with sharing my page externally. I recently shared my about page and noticed that the page description says

    This is just a short excerpt for the about page

    How can I remove or edit this.

    Hello @linneajericho,

    I am not sure if there is an option to share the full content. “Share” feature was designed to generate traffic to your website/blog. If a content was shared from your blog/website, say to Facebook, people will see it from Facebook as an excerpt, not the full content. It’s so that they would need to click it and see the full content from your website.

    I am still tagging a WP support, you will find “modlook” on the side. They might have other options for you, or better explanation on this. :)

    Hi there,

    There is an option to set a custom excerpt for posts and pages, and if there is an excerpt set, Facebook will show that in the preview instead of grabbing the first few lines of content from the page itself. But it appears we have a bug where the Excerpt box is not being shown in certain themes, meaning you can’t change the default excerpt for that page.

    The bug has already been reported, but I can’t tell you when it will be fixed. There are two other ways around this, though:

    1) Create a new page. That current excerpt is there because you made your About page by editing the default page that was there when you created your site. If you create a new page it shouldn’t have a default excerpt set. Then copy your content over into that page (don’t use the Copy Page option as that will copy the excerpt as well), delete the current page, and publish the new page.

    2) Switch to a different theme, edit the excerpt, and switch back to your current theme.

    Either way, once you’ve made the necessary changes, go to https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/sharing/ and enter your About page’s URL. Click Debug, and then click the Scrape Again button to tell Facebook they need to update the sharing preview.
