Create new user

I have created a free blog named “betwiththekings.wordpress.com”. I want to add my friend as new user as author. I do the steps from invite new user, but he is not a wordpress user, so the email says to sign up. In the sign up form is requested to fill a blog name, but he doesnt want a new blog just to post on my blog. So my question is if there is a way to create a user or he has to fill that sign up form and make a new blog too.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This person has to create a username account but is not required to register a blog. Here is what the relevant support doc states:
They will need to click the “Accept Invitation” button in the invitation email. If they are logged into their WordPress.com account, they will be taken directly to your blog. If not, they will be taken to the log-in screen, where they can either log in or create a new user account.
Note that users who create a new WordPress.com account at that point will still need to return to the invitation email and click the “Accept Invitation” button after doing so.
