Creating a bilingual website in wordpress.com
-
I’ve just gone through the trouble of buying a plugin to make my site bilingual only to discover that plugins only works on wordpress.org sites. If I understand correctly, there is no way to make a bilingual wordpress.com website?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Plugin installation possible only if you hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting/ and set up a WordPress.ORG install. http://wordpress.org
There is no FTP access to WordPress.COM blogs and we bloggers cannot install any plugins or third party themes.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/There is no other upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality.
WordPress.org offers free software that you can install on a web server. You can upload and install themes and plugins, run ads, conduct ecommerce and edit the database. Learn about the differences here. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

However, I have translation on my WordPress.COM blogs. There are two workarounds and you will find them here > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2011/02/14/translation-widget-for-wordpress-com-blogs/
Note: You can copy and paste the code on my Translations page and then replace every occurrence of my blog’s URL in the code with your own blog’s URL.Re: bilingual blogging and/or mutlilingual blogging
If you are bilingual or multilingual and want to publish your free hosted WordPress.com in two or more languages but do not want to rely on machine translation that can be done. You can have two or more blogs in different languages and interlink them via categories and custom menus. There’s also a workaround for publishing posts in two or more languages in the same blog. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2013/02/25/wordpress-com-multilingual-blogs/

Thanks, I didn’t initially want to go with .org because I’m not a techie and I thought it would be much more complex. But the site must be bilingual, not just the posts but the entire site. I guess I’ll migrate to .org and figure it out.

I already provided a link to the workaround the means for having a bilingual or multilingual WordPress.COM blog above. But if you don’t wish to use it then WordPress.ORG is your other choice.

Oh, I think I misunderstood. Do you have an example of a blog that uses this work-around so I can see it?
Thanks!

Sorry but I cannot recall and URLs of blogs that have used the workaround. I can only assure you that it works very well. Your readers will be able to click the Category tab for the language of their choice in the custom menu and read and comment on the post in their preferred language. Staff have also provided this support doc http://en.support.wordpress.com/set-up-a-multilingual-blog/
