Creating a business page rom the premiums I have already made

  • Unknown's avatar

I am following up on a previous conversation. I wish to create a business page – from all of the single premium pages I already have… I’ve been waiting for them to get around to their ‘reup’ times and am planning to do it then… which is soon.

As I understand it I would create a Host page – such as ‘The Imaginative Worlds Of Christopher Kaufman’ or some such… then my pages – http://www.squiggletbuglet’http://www.talesoftheoceancity and new ones, etc… (and http://www.namethatopus)… would be listed across the top… also a new Ecwyd shop would be on all of them. Additionally the urls I have for them listed above would send everyone to the host page… and they go from there.

Is that how it would work?

And then – when the time comes, can you help me organize them into this new host business page?

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @talesoftheoceancity,

I believe we originally chatted about this awhile back here:

    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/ecommers-wordpress-business-etc?replies=19

Happy to help you get this in place!

    Here’s what I propose:

    – You setup a new site like christopherkaufman.com that serves as the main homepage for your books and has the e-commerce store. You would only need to purchase the Business bundle for this site.

    – We let the other domains function as separate sites. So, if someone wanted to learn more about Tales of the Ocean City, they could visit talesoftheoceancity.com. There would be links to all of your individual books at the top of christopherkaufman.com.

    – On the individual book pages like talesoftheoceancity.com, we would have a link that says something to the effect of “Buy Now”. Those links would all go to our newly-created store at christopherkaufman.com/store.

The total cost for this would be $299 on the main page (christopherkaufman.com) and then $26 on each of the individual book sites.

    How does that sound?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello again – $26 for each book pages? – What about when I have 50 book pages?… I thought there was a way to bundle them all together… and the URLS – for example – http://www.talesoftheoceancity.com – would take people to the Home page. Then I could have the pages listed in large type across the page… near the top… with the store right next to it… like that. Simpler I think…

    Best.

  • Unknown's avatar

That’s definitely an option. We could have talesoftheoceancity.com (and other individual book blogs) redirect to the new home page (christopherkaufman.com in our example). However, you would still need to pay $26 for the cost of each domain. Here’s an example breakdown:

    Blog: christopherkaufman.wordpress.com (new blog)

    – Business bundle ($299) with included domain christopherkaufman.com

    – Domain talesoftheoceancity.com ($26)

    – Domain namethatopus.com ($26)

    – Domain squiggletbuglet.com ($26)

The $26 charge would be the cost to maintain each domain. Does that make sense?

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks – so it’s different than the $18 charge? – I guess I could leave Name That Opus and others separate… – leave them free blogs with $18 charge for the URLs…. the one that aren’t an immediate part of the store. And I imagine these charges are all annual? — then the question is… once we choose an arrangement… can you put it together… maybe there’s no a lot to do once the Home Page is created. Thanks – or just tell me what’s involved for me to arrange things correctly. Best.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

The charge is for the custom domain/URLs (like namethatopus.com). However, you have private registration setup on all of your domains hence the $26 charge instead of $18. Private registration hides your contact information on the domain page. You can read more about that here:

    Register a new domain name

There are two primary ways to set it up:

    1. All custom domains redirect to our new site (christopherkaufman.com in our example). The Business bundle and store are on that site. You can think of this as many paths leading to the same site (since talesoftheoceancity.com, namethatopus.com, etc would all redirect to christopherkaufman.com)

    2. We can leave them all as separate sites and use a “Buy Now” link to send everyone to your homepage at christopherkaufman.com. In this example, namethatopus.com and talesoftheoceancity.com (and all of your other custom domains) would all be separate sites with a link back to the main site that has the Business bundle and store.

Either way we go, you’ll be paying the same amount ($26 for each custom domain and $299 for the Business bundle). It’s just a matter of preference. I personally think the second option works better. Can you let me know how you would like to proceed?

  • Unknown's avatar

I don’t know about private registration and if that is needed.

If the urls led everything to the Home Page… with the pages listed across the top… and people press the button to go to that page… I guess that is version one… would it then be that the exwyd store would be seen on all of the pages? – that way they could buy their book right from it’s own page. This might be better…

Also – in example one am I not paying $100 each for each premium site?

I went exploring and from the tales of the ocean city page it would cost $199 to upgrade… is it possible to do it this way? — I am really strapped for cash right now. That would be $199 plus the urls – which might be $18 a piece. …?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

Just to clear up a bit of confusion here:

If the urls led everything to the Home Page… with the pages listed across the top… and people press the button to go to that page… I guess that is version one… would it then be that the exwyd store would be seen on all of the pages? – that way they could buy their book right from it’s own page. This might be better…

In option #1, which would involve creating a new site christopherkaufman.wordpress.com with an entirely new domain (christopherkaufman.com and moving all other domains (like talesoftheoceancity.com) under that site, readers would only see christopherkaufman.com. They would never see talesoftheoceancity.com because that URL would redirect to christopherkaufman.com.

I really think the best option would be the following:

    1. Create a new site called christopherkaufman.wordpress.com. Purchase the Business bundle and setup the domain christopherkaufman.com. Your store would be on this page only.Total cost: $299.

    2. Leave the other sites independent. So, if a user wanted to learn about Tales of the Ocean City, they could do that on talesoftheoceancity.com. Total cost per site: $18 for each domain or $99 for the premium bundle if you want the other associated upgrades listed here:

    WordPress.com Premium [Redirects to Plans]

    3. Add a link in the menu of each individual site with the text “Buy Now.” This directs them to the store we setup in step #1 at christopherkaufman.com.

    How does that sound?

  • Unknown's avatar

Sorry – I dunno. Thanks for your time and feel free to pass me to someone else if you’ve had enough…

Lose my premium capabilities? – doesn’t sound so good. Would rather fold everything into the business site (The Imaginative Worlds of Christopher Kaufman)… have the tittles for each book in GIANT NEON letters across the top for folks to visit the specific locations…. have them all have the same capabilities since they are pages within the business ‘suite’… and have the ecwyd store show up on each page. Actually less button pushing for people.

I guess I need to understand how ‘pages’ work inside a blog… I could just start something fresh… attach the urls and make new pages… but I don;t want to lose all that work. The blog pages (talesoftheoceancity, etc) have videos and all types of past blogs, etc… don’t want to lost that. Can these pages be folded into the overall new Business blog…? – Otherwise I’ll just have to turn one of them into a business blog for $199, transform it and implace the others within with links or some such… feel free to pass me on to another engineer if I’ve become tiresome. I’ll understand.

  • Unknown's avatar

I guess I need to understand how ‘pages’ work inside a blog

I think this is where we’re getting hung up here. Particularly this bit:

I could just start something fresh… attach the urls and make new pages

Say we started a new site called christopherkaufman.wordpress.com and setup the Business bundle. The site would then be christopherkaufman.com and would have store capabilities.

Now, just to work with one book as an example, say we moved talesoftheoceancity.com to the christopherkaufman.wordpress.com site instead of leaving it as a separate site. Each site like christopherkaufman.wordpress.com can only have one primary domain. In this case, we would set christopherkaufman.com as the primary domain. That means talesoftheoceancity.com would redirect to christopherkaufman.com automatically.

Since you already have pages on talesoftheoceancity.com, this can cause a bit of a problem. Say visitors went to this URL that you’ve shared previously (I made it up as an example):

    http://talesoftheoceancity.com/all-about-the-book

If there isn’t a corresponding page here:

    http://christopherkaufman.com/all-about-the-book

They’re going to receive an error message.

Once we move your other domains to the main Business site, they will cease to function as separate sites. It wouldn’t be possible to create a page at talesoftheoceancity.com/buy-now as that would automatically redirect to christopherkaufman.com/buy-now.

Does that help to clarify? This option could definitely work if you wanted to have pages like this:

    http://christopherkaufman.com/tales-of-the-ocean-city

However, you wouldn’t be able to use the following:

    http://talesoftheoceancity.com/about

That would automatically take people to:

    christopherkaufman.com/about

If you would like, we could start to set this option up using a free two week trial on the Business bundle. We could always adjust if it doesn’t work out!

Thank you Jeremy – you are very patient.

SO – lets say we create the Business Home Site. Then we put, for example, Tales into it. How would this page function? — would it still function as a blog page like it does now? – or be static and all blog comments would be on the home page?

    I was imagining this scenario.

HOME BLOG (The Imaginative Worlds of…)
Then across the top right under the header (like my Talesoftheoceancity blog page looks) …. the various book titles would be listed in giant neon letters. — so if some one goes to talesoftheoceancity.com …. they’ll go to this home page but then see TALES title right up front. Then they press on the TALES and go to that page…. and it is the TALES blog functioning as it does now…. with video and comments, sound, etc. The ecwyd store would appear on all pages so they can dive right in…. THE about pages can all be the same one from the home page, that doesn’t matter… I don’t think I’ve created any other ‘pages’ in the blogs…

Is what I described above possible?

    THANKS!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

Yep! That is possible. We would set that up as categories. So, every post pertaining to the Tales blog would be categorized as such. Then, from the main site, you could have a page that listed all posts in the Tales category at the following address:

    http://christopherkaufman.com/category/tales-of-the-ocean-city

That would live in your menu. When clicked, someone could see all posts pertaining to that book. Would that work?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi Jeremy – I haven’t wandered off! — AM just waiting for some financials to come through… just a week or so… then will go for it! Thanks so much for your assistance!

  • Unknown's avatar

    No problem! Keep me posted.

  • Unknown's avatar

Just to double check… when we do this. There’s the main page… then the various other pages listed across the top (like the theme for Tales Of The Ocean City)… and when people press the title… they go to the pages and they behave like these blog pages do now… with their pictures/illustration and video catagories… I don;t want to lose all of my work. Thanks.

ALSO – all of the posts etc, that are on them now are carried over? – And, of course, the Ecwyd store appears on all of them.

NOTE: The Paypal button has disappeared from my tales of the ocean city page… why is this?

Okay – so you mentioned a 2 week free starter period… so once I’m clear on everything we can get rolling. Let me know how to start.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

Just to double check… when we do this. There’s the main page… then the various other pages listed across the top (like the theme for Tales Of The Ocean City)… and when people press the title… they go to the pages and they behave like these blog pages do now… with their pictures/illustration and video catagories

Correct – we would have a main page (christopherkaufman.com). Then, across the top, we would have links to all of your individual books like Tales Of the Ocean City. When people click on the book title, they’ll be taken to a page like this:

    http://christopherkaufman.com/category/tales-of-the-ocean-city

That will have all of the posts pertaining to that particular book.

If they ever entered talesoftheoceancity.com, they would be redirected straight to christopherkaufman.com.

all of the posts etc, that are on them now are carried over? – And, of course, the Ecwyd store appears on all of them.

Correct – all of your posts would be carried over. However, the Ecwid store would only be on christopherkaufman.com at your main store like christopherkaufman.com/store.

The Paypal button has disappeared from my tales of the ocean city page… why is this?

Could you let me know where this is supposed to be showing up so I can take a look?

  • Unknown's avatar

The side bar of Tales Of The Ocean City…

Alrighty then… let’s give it a go… And I hope you are getting a good salary… or being paid by the line…. if so I just bought you a house :)… Tell me how to get started.., its’ time! THANKS!

  • Unknown's avatar

Regarding the PayPal buttons, somehow it looks like they got moved to the Inactive area as shown here:

    http://d.pr/i/UD9E

You should see that at the bottom of your widgets page here:

    https://talesoftheoceancity.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

Can you try dragging them back onto your sidebar?

As for the new setup, can you complete the following?

    1. Add a new site to your account (christopherkaufman.wordpress.com, for example) following the steps here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-new-site to-an-existing-account

    2. Under that site, setup a Business bundle trial. You can do that by navigating to christopherkaufman.wordpress.com/wp-admin (or whatever address you create) and clicking Store -> Store on the sidebar. Use the “Try Now” button beside the Business bundle to start the two week trial.

    3. Once the Business bundle is active, you can register a custom domain (like christopherkaufman.com) for free following the steps here:

    Register a New Domain

Let me know once you get that setup, and we’ll move forward with the next steps!

  • Unknown's avatar

on Tales- it says the sidebar is not useable anymore?

I am setting up my ecwid store… guess I need that first, ready to go… however when it asked my to do a test order, it sent me to my Tales WordPress page…? – which no longer has a pay button… I thought the Ecwid would sell inside itself or whatever… (sigh) have to figure that out now.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi – okay, I’ve gotten it started. soundartus.com —
    questions:
How to get the pages into it —

How to get them to appear across the top under the main title (where the HOW, ABOUT, etc is) I tried posting as a category but it didn’t work… and then STORE right there.

IS there a better theme? – TITLE across top and a listing of pages underneath – with LARGE lettering for the page titles. I liked the one I used for Tales Of The Ocean City

Please remind how to add HTML to text widget… can’t remember, should be easier… option right there )paste html?)… sorry… lots of details adding up.

    Thanks!
