Creating a business page rom the premiums I have already made

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay – have made some headway as you can see… right now a main thing is to see how to get the Categories area (if that’s what we’re using) to list ACROSS the top in Gian Neon :) Letters where the Home and About is… and to link them to their present blogpages?

Also I would like to improve the ‘storefront’ such that it looks like a store rather than just a list? — Thanks!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Okay – further along!

Categories are across top… can the font be changed separately from the rest?

Now to create links to pages?

ANd make the store look like a storefront. Thanks.

    Hi!

I’m playing a bit of catch-up here. Looks like you’ve made some great progress!

can the font be changed separately from the rest?

Yep! We can adjust the colors and size of the font separately from the rest of the pages.

Pulling in the posts from your other sites is relatively simple, but there are a few steps we want to make sure we get right.

For example, to move the posts from talesoftheoceancity.com to soundartus.wordpress.com and categorize them as “Tales of the Ocean City”, we would want to do the following:

    1. Export the posts from this page (just select “Posts”):

    https://talesoftheoceancity.wordpress.com/wp-admin/export.php

    2. Import the posts into soundartus.wordpress.com as described here:

    Import a Website

    3. Here, you should now see all of your posts from Tales of the Ocean City:

    https://soundartus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=post

However, they won’t be assigned to that category just yet.

    4. Click the top checkbox to select all of the posts (since we only imported Tales of the Ocean City):

    http://d.pr/i/tLHM

    5. Under the Bulk Options menu, select “Edit” and click “Apply”

    6. Check the category box for Tales of the Ocean City on the new site

    7. Apply those changes

It’s important that we do these in the order above. Otherwise, if you imported more than one site at a time, you would have to manually check the posts versus using the bulk edit function. Does that make sense? You would need to complete 1-7 for each site selecting the appropriate category under step #6.

Before doing this we are clear that we are not just extracting blog posts… But the links at the top of the new page take people to the page for the subject… As it is now… With the title, the sidebar with video and music… Categories… The blgs and art?

By the way… WHY did the sidebar for tales of the oceanvity suddenly go inactive??

    Hi,

Before doing this we are clear that we are not just extracting blog posts… But the links at the top of the new page take people to the page for the subject… As it is now… With the title, the sidebar with video and music… Categories… The blgs and art?

The steps I provided will pull all of the posts from talesoftheoceancity.com and make them available at the new site. The rest of the site at talesoftheoceancity.com (menu, sidebar, etc) will need to be set up again on the new site, perhaps in a slightly different way. For example, this menu shown here would appear differently:

    http://d.pr/i/5Vva

Instead of appearing at the top of the page, it would appear as a dropdown underneath the Tales of the Ocean City tab on the new site. So, when visitors hover over that site, they’ll see those menu items. Does that make sense?

We can setup the sidebar items so that they only appear when someone is on a page related to Tales of the Ocean City. However, we would need to set those up manually.

By the way… WHY did the sidebar for tales of the oceanvity suddenly go inactive??

The sidebar is still active. However, there aren’t any widgets in the sidebar section here:

    https://talesoftheoceancity.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

Have you tried dragging and dropping widgets into that area?

  • Unknown's avatar

On the TOC it says :this side bar is no longer available’.

  • Unknown's avatar

Are you referring to this page here?

    https://talesoftheoceancity.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

It looks like the sidebar is available on my side. Are you seeing something different at that page?

  • Unknown's avatar

Yeah – it’s weird… scroll down and it says Sidebar inactive… I never deactivated it. Well – I’ll be on a new system soon… what you said sounds good… drop down menus actually sounds nice. Thank much for your time… and I hope to get to the steps this weekend… I have to do it for each blog!

  • Unknown's avatar

Ah! Yes – sorry. There’s an inactive area shown here:

    http://d.pr/i/1ab4u

Those are widgets that were removed from your sidebar somehow. They’re stored there so that they don’t appear on your site, but their settings are saved. You can drag them up to the normal widget area shown here:

    http://d.pr/i/1ggrf

Can you give that a try?

Thank much for your time… and I hope to get to the steps this weekend… I have to do it for each blog!

No problem! Let me know once you go through those steps. Happy to make sure everything is working correctly.

I tried dragging a widget in TOC site… but now it disappeared… I think it;s the one with the paypal button… what a mess. Why did it go inactive on it;s own? — you have to drag it a long way up… I don’t have time for this…. oh well I’ll get on with the other stuff.

I exported TIC blogs to my desktop… then imported from Soundartus… but then there is this (unexplained)…
    Import WordPress
    Download Media

If you exported your site’s media files, we’ll import those for you automatically.
    Assign Authors

To make it easier for you to edit and save the imported content, you may want to reassign the author of the imported item to an existing user of this site. For example, you may want to import all the entries as admins entries.

If an author specified in the import doesn’t exist, their items will be reassigned to you.

Author from import: Christopher Kaufman (talesoftheoceancity)
Reassign posts to an existing user:
    —————-
And the blogs are not in the Soundartus post list. I don;t want to repeat the process and have all the blogs in there twice. Do ‘Assign Authors? – Sorry, I didn’t see this explained anywhere.

  • Unknown's avatar

Went ahead and pressed submit… seems to have worked!

  • Unknown's avatar

I guess the 2 posts in soundart will get reimported… can’t go through them all clicking post buttons…

  • Unknown's avatar

OKAY – have the TOC blogs imported and categorized? — Each page will have it’s own title and art – and sticky post on top? – The sticky is missing and is on the Soundartus page.

Guess I’ll continue with the others hoping that this will all work out later!

  • Unknown's avatar

:(? – I went to the secdon blog (Musical Forest) exported the blogs to my desktop as before… then when I went to SOUNDARTUS and pressed ‘import’ it never asked me to CHOOSE what to import… and just did it automatically – went right to the ‘we are importing’… etc. I tried it again (of course)… so what happened?… I just imported 2 more piles of TOC posts? or what?…

  • Unknown's avatar

Well – looks like there’s only one set of TOC blogs in SARTUS… but… all of the TOC blogs are still listed right in the SARTUS blogs… I thought the idea was to be able to choose them all at once for each blog… if the TOC blogs are stillall listed… does that not mean I’ll have to check all the others individually?

  • Unknown's avatar

I have another question before continuing… I got some of these in my email… Are all my followers going to translate? – AND are they all going to get an email for all of these posts?? – thanks.

  • Unknown's avatar

Another small question. There’s no META on this theme… how does one log in? thanks.

  • Unknown's avatar

Forget that one – sorry – found the META widget… didn’t know that was what I was looking for… best.

  • Unknown's avatar

OKAY – I had received a few of the imported posts in my email… but not the others… so am continueing with Musical Forest posts… will try using the filter? – to not have to individually select.
