Creating a business page rom the premiums I have already made
-
(sigh) I think. It looks like the posts may have not hit everyone’s email… just mine because along the way I followed the new one.
So – if this ever gets fixed… I’ll need instructions on how to migrate my followers from the other blogs. This is doable right? Thanks.
-
UPDATE!
(I should do a theater piece with all of these posts :))
I gave up on ecwid :(( — and went to Shopify… Boom – works perfectly on first try.
So now I can get back to making the pages work properly! …Intro page and all that… ALSO – I think I learned that, when ready I merely ask you to move my followers over and you do it… is that right?
Also – I want to make the shopify be a ‘shopping cart like store… so people don’t have to buy one at a time… (if you have a quick word on this thanks)…
Other than that you can wait till I work on the pages thing… which I may need help on… hopefully not! :) thanks.

OKAY – NEW real question!
Here’s what I have… it’s a little wierd… probably not done…
http://soundartus.com/tales-of-the-ocean-city/The posts are listed with bullet points… But I have idea what ‘Grab The Slug means… :)) — I found where the Slug is… but not sure what to do with it. — If this works then very close! — and ultimately transformative for my work!
-
VERY GOOD – check out my store!! Rockin’.
Okay – all that’s left really – before migrating followers – is fixing up the INTRO pages! – you have been very patient… were getting to the end!
-
I think I learned that, when ready I merely ask you to move my followers over and you do it… is that right?
Yep! I can do that for you. I assume we’ll want to combine all of your followers onto one site.
VERY GOOD – check out my store!! Rockin’.
Looks great!!

Sorry! I should have clarified. On this page, you’ll find a list of all of your categories:
https://soundartus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category
On the far right-hand side, you’ll see this column:
The “slug” is how WordPress.com references each category. So, in theory, you could have a category that reads like “Tales of the Ocean City,” but the slug could be “my-favorite-book.” Normally, that doesn’t happen because the slug is created from what you’ve named the category. If you name a category “Announcements,” the slug will be “announcements” by default.
On your Tales of the Ocean City page, you would want to display all posts related to that book. So, we’ll need to grab the specific category slug to tell WordPress.com what posts we want.
[display-posts include_excerpt="true" category="blogs-for-toc"]In that example, WordPress.com would grab the posts in the Blogs for TOC category. Does that help to clarify?
-
Sorry – not yet. Please take a glance at the new Tales Page — this is the page with the code you offered included. There are a bunch of posts with bullet points…
http://soundartus.com/tales-of-the-ocean-city/
Grab the Slug still isn’t clear. :) — maybe I’ve done so already? – the “blogsfortoc’ is in there… anything else to do? — I mean this page isn’t right yet correct? —
It seemed to suggest in your past directive, that – after doing the above there was something Else to do in the Pages/Categoris area that lists the slugs… You mentioned the last step being ‘grab the slug’… did you mean go hear to get the names of them for other pages? — or will doing something here change the look of the page above.
Thanks.

Getting very close…. if indeed the PAGE above is meant to list the blogs in bullet form… no problem… take a glance – I’ve made a creative solution. — if that can be improved (i.e. look of blogs posted on page) pl. let me know.
ONE more question… I tried to find the answer myself… (we’re winding down!)… for now! … but is it possible to attach categories (such as announcements, videos, etc.) to the PAGE… and not clutter the main page with them. One button press – boom – you are there… with my BLOG pic/link and the categories listed above or to the side… hmmm… a categories widget?
-
But can I – in a categories widget… choose the categories… the widget lists them all… just want about three or four of them…

Yep! It will display the posts in bullet format. We can change that though with some CSS if you would like! Could you give me some general direction on how you would like it improved? Would you like the bullet points removed or increased spacing between the lines?
Also, just a note, you can add a little bit of the post (called an excerpt) with the following attribute:
include_excerpt="true"You would add that in like this:
[display-posts include_excerpt="true" category="blogs-for-toc" include_excerpt="true"]It seemed to suggest in your past directive, that – after doing the above there was something Else to do in the Pages/Categoris area that lists the slugs… You mentioned the last step being ‘grab the slug’… did you mean go hear to get the names of them for other pages? — or will doing something here change the look of the page above.
Each Display Post shortcode just needs to be tailored a bit to display the posts we want to show. So, for example, on the page you mention, you have this code:
[display-posts include_excerpt="true" category="blogs-for-toc"]That will display all posts in the blogs-for-toc category. But, let’s say you wanted to display the posts from Blogs for Musical Forest instead. You would need to go to this page:
https://soundartus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-tags.php?taxonomy=category
This is what you’re looking for:
You would swap out that slug like this:
[display-posts include_excerpt="true" category="blogs-for-musical-forest"]That tells the shortcode what posts you want to grab.
But can I – in a categories widget… choose the categories… the widget lists them all… just want about three or four of them…
You would need to manually create the widget by listing some links within a text widget like this:
<a href="http://soundartus.wordpress.com/category/blogs-for-musical-forest">Blogs for Musical Forest</aThe link to any of your categories is going to be soundartus.wordpress.com/category/ and then the category slug that we discussed above. Can you try creating a text widget with some manual links like above?
-
Sure – let’s do some CSS – would love to learn more.
Would like them to show a bit of the visual content (images) from posts – and have more separation.
include_excerpt=”true” – this is the same for all of the pages?
ON this page – http://soundartus.com/the-musical-forest/ — I’d like to get more control over the image placement… and under my daughter’s picture I’d like to have a bit of text. (Sofia Rose – young artist (dancer/singer/actor) who reads the title role of Squiggle T. Buglet!) — and will have other instances of that with other artists…
Feel free to offer suggestions when you glance at the page.
-
And – let’s talk about the ‘migration of followers’…
And how things work when I post blogs. – for example what happens what I post? — can I direct FROM specific blog page? —
How does all that work now. thanks.
-
Would like them to show a bit of the visual content (images) from posts – and have more separation.
For the visual content, you can add the featured image to the post listed using the following attribute:
image_size="thumbnail"You could also change that to medium or large instead of thumbnail. Can you give that a try?
For the separation, can you drop this under Appearance -> Customize -> CSS?
ul.display-posts-listing .listing-item { padding-top: 20px; }That should add some padding between the list items.
include_excerpt=”true” – this is the same for all of the pages?
Yep! Provided you want a bit of the post to be shown in the list item, you’ll want to include that attribute. It basically tells the shortcode to grab a bit of the post to display.
The easiest way to add text beneath the image would be to use a caption. Start here:
https://soundartus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=861&action=edit
Click on the image and then the pencil icon that appears as shown here:
Then, you can add a caption to the image that should appear when you publish it. Can you give that a try?
We can edit the alignment of the image from that same page (you should be able to drag and drop the image around the page. Could you let me know specifically where you would like it to be moved? I’m happy to create an example for you.
And – let’s talk about the ‘migration of followers’..
When you say the word, I can move all of your subscribers and followers from all of your previous blogs and combine them on this blog. When you post something to soundartus.com, previous subscribers to talesoftheoceancity.com will get a notification. We’ll just pile all of the subscribers in one site.
And how things work when I post blogs. – for example what happens what I post? — can I direct FROM specific blog page? —
You won’t be able to specify “From Tales of the Ocean City” for example. However, when you include it in the TOC category, it will automatically appear on the Tales of the Ocean City page that we created with the display post shortcode. Readers would have to use context clues within the post to determine what book this applied to.

Alright – will keep tinkering of course… but would like to migrate followers.
If there are no other options or possibilities… then migrate all to SOUNDARTUS… BUT before you do it please explain how we get the URLS for the other blogs… All of them – except ANNA FILAMENO and MEET ME BY THE RIVER can be folded in. — and then we want their urls to direct them to Soundartus… Thanks!
Let me know if there are in options in how this is done… if not… go for it… and I’ll keep on with the site… lot’s of work yet to be done.
Another topic is how the site behaves on mobile devices and if there is anything one can do to influence this.

Just to clarify, we’re trying to set it up so that when someone enters the following:
http://talesoftheoceancity.com/2013/06/02/available-on-itunes-and-ibooks-herewelcome-to-chris/
They end up here:
http://soundartus.com/2013/06/02/available-on-itunes-and-ibooks-herewelcome-to-chris/
Correct?
The easiest way to do that would be to setup Site Redirect upgrades on each site:
This would cost $13/site.
An alternative would be moving talesoftheoceancity.com (and all other domains) to soundartus.wordpress.com and setting soundartus.com as the primary domain. This would mean that all of the domains would redirect correctly. However, the only downside would be that the original blog URLs (talesoftheoceancity.wordpress.com for example) would not redirect. The deciding factor is going to be how many times you’ve shared that URL (talesoftheoceancity.wordpress.com). If you’ve shared that a lot on Facebook and elsewhere, you would probably want it to redirect. If you’ve only ever shared the custom domain (talesoftheoceancity.com), then it probably won’t matter as much.
Another topic is how the site behaves on mobile devices and if there is anything one can do to influence this.
Could you specify a bit more? The theme should automatically adjust to the size of your browser (mobile responsive). Are you referring to a particular part of the theme that’s moving around?
-
I haven’t sent out the urls with wordpress in them… so I think that means that the ‘alternative method’ is best.
This just means that all of the urls (except Anna Filameno and Meet me by the river which can be left as is)… will send to soundartus. I believe that was the idea… so if that’s that, then bombs away and go ahead and do it! … Then what… we cancel the present blogs for them correct?
thanks.

Just as a precaution, let’s do one blog as a test to make sure it all works as expected. I went ahead and moved the domain talesoftheoceancity.com from talesoftheoceancity.wordpress.com to soundartus.wordpress.com. You should see it listed here:
https://soundartus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=my-upgrades
I then made sure that soundartus.com was set as the primary domain here:
https://soundartus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
Now, when you enter talesoftheoceancity.com, you should automatically be redirected to soundartus.com. Additionally, if you view one of your older posts like this one:
http://talesoftheoceancity.com/2015/02/27/the-phantastic-theater-performs-tales-of-the-ocean-city/
You should be redirected to this link:
http://soundartus.com/2015/02/27/the-phantastic-theater-performs-tales-of-the-ocean-city/
The only thing left to do would be to remove the Premium bundle from talesoftheoceancity.wordpress.com. I went ahead and did that for you so you won’t have to pay for that going forward.
How does that all sound? If that looks fine, I can repeat the same process for all of your sites (minus Anna Filameno and Meet Me By The River)!
-
Looks good! — all EXCEPT the sites Anna Filameno and Meet me by the river!
Thanks so much!
I’ll be out til late and will double check everything… then continue our weekly lessons, if that’s in good form, gradually delving deeper into site creation… !
Best!
-
Done! I’ve moved all of the domains (minus Anna Filameno and Meet Me By The River). You should see them all listed here:
https://soundartus.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains
I’ve also removed the associated Premium bundles. I did some tests, and everything seems to work correctly. Double-check for me though just in case!
-
G’morning. So the urls redirect now… I want to add http://www.themusicalforest.net – and – http://www.thephantastictheater.com —
When do the followers come? … and then I assume the old sites will disappear… and there’ll be only Soundartus, Anna FIlameno and Meet Me B The River…? — is that right.
I found in experimenting that it will be easy to have the blog subject announced quite strongly in the subject heading so people can see which one it is… and the result is that a couple posts in each category a week will be enough to be plenty of blogging without being too much… which is perfect for my ‘blogging rhythm’… this will work well! … I don’t have to feel that I have to keep each category alive on their own… and they are all linking up in my live show – The Phantastic Theater… where I will be presenting live performances of Tales, Musical Forest and Phantastic Zoo… It’s all coming together! Thanks.
Let me know when my followers are on board so I can make an announcement about the new arrangement to all – and to notice the subject heading to guide their interest… I’ll send this out once a month.
I also have a question about ‘re-posting’. In ‘Name That Opus’… I put out composer’s birthdays. I’d like to just keep them going year round… is there a way of just rescheduling them en-masse? – thanks.
Best. – then will get back to tweaks and explorations of CSS… I’ll try to limit myself to one or two questions a week…! – if that works with how you do things. You are an excellent teacher.

Having problems connecting tumblr and linked in – they keep saying… there was a problem with authentication or some such…
