Creating a CNAME
-
Hello! I am fairly new to all of this and doing most of my learning through websites/videos. I have ran into a little bit of trouble creating a CNAME. I use DreamHost.
I know the basic code for this and where to go in WordPress. (Upgrades>domain>edit)
& CNAME <subdomain> <host>.
from there I am lost. I’ve tried the obvious. Any suggestions to lead me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!
side note:
I created my domain first on DreamHost & changed the name servers to ns1.wordpress.com, ns2.wordpress.com, ns3.wordpress.com. I then installed wordpress onto my dreamhost dashboard, and got an email from dreamhost stating:“There’s one last thing you probably need to do before thriftymiss.net
will work though: you need to either switch thriftymiss.net to be hosted
with us (by telling your domain registrar to change your nameservers to
ns1.dreamhost.com, ns2.dreamhost.com, and ns3.dreamhost.com), OR you
need to ask your current webhost to create a “CNAME from thriftymiss.net
to wordpress.dreamhost.com.”I don’t want to change the name servers because WordPress recommended using theres?

Hello there,
I have never had to do this for my own blogs. I did locate the instructions in the support doumernatation for you though. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/map-subdomain/#instructions-for-mapping-subdomainsHopefully another Volunteer or Staff will arrive in this thread and provide help. If that doesn’t happen here’s the link for contacting Staff. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/

Hi. I’m not sure I understand what exactly you want to do or what you want the CNAME for. thriftymiss.net already directs to your WordPress.com blog for me. No CNAME is required to achieve that. If you want anything else, please specify (for example “I would like blabla.thriftymiss.net to direct to ___.com”).

Thankyou both. I recieved the email from my host – and wasn’t sure if I really needed to do it or not. I don’t think I actually need to do this! Thanks again.
