Creating a Custom Featured Section

About a month ago, I changed the theme of my website from Lenscap to DailyMag. So far, everything about the new theme is great, except for its featured section.

For context: The featured section on DailyMag displays four articles with the featured image sitting on top of the title, situated underneath the main menu of the site. On desktop it works decently, but still is not very aesthetically pleasing. On mobile, only two articles are displayed and it’s pretty clear they have not been formatted for mobile properly.

As a temporary solution, I’ve removed the featured section entirely. However, I would still like my site to have one. Is there a code I could use to implement a new Featured section on my site that fits on both mobile and desktop? It could be a slideshow/carousel or just a few articles displayed at the top of the site.

My website produces news and media, so having a way to display featured content is very important.

Thank you for your help in advance,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

The featured content area is defined by the theme and since we don’t offer access to WordPress.com theme code, it won’t be possible to make substantial changes to the way that area functions.

but still is not very aesthetically pleasing

Custom CSS can be used to change the styling — this feature is available through your current plan. If you have some ideas in mind and would like to talk through them, you’re welcome to start a chat and we’ll be happy to take a look at what will be possible.

It could be a slideshow/carousel or just a few articles displayed at the top of the site.

I recommend looking to see which plugins are available in My Sites > Plugins. Image slideshows can be added to individual posts and pages but not used in the way you describe (by default using this this theme).
