creating a custom graphic overlay on post thumbnails.

  I am new to css and I am trying to create a graphic overlay that sits on top of a post thumbnail. I want to be able to specify with in the post to whether turn on 1 of 2 possible graphic overlays and display it in the corner of the div within the Index.php page. How do I go about doing this.
