Creating a domain w/ WordPress (beginner)
-
I’m trying to create a domain name to go with my blog to redirect, but everytime I type in ANY website domain suggestion (example.com), this shows up:
Possible problem with example.com
We were unable to verify that example.com is pointing to WordPress.com. If you own this domain, follow the directions below to get it ready for your blog. If you don’t own it, try a different name to see if something else is available. If the domain is available, you may be able to register it with another registrar and then map it to your blog.
Why can’t I just add a domain name, I’ve tried tons of names and OUT THERE names I know no one has registered and it still reads that. Any suggestions?

Are you trying to PURCHASE the domain through WordPress.com? I believe you need to go to Paypal and buy the credits first.

I am having the exactly the same problem, and it seems to extend to not being able to purchase credits. The options just don’t seem to be there. Anyone got any ideas?

I did this just yesterday and didn’t run into this problem. Unfortunately, I can’t really remember what I did differently.

Hi again, I’ve just tried once more and it’s still not working. The settings> domains > enter a domain name process ends with a form for domain mapping but not domain name purchase plus mapping (which is what help and forums suggest I should be getting to). I’ve tried various names. It would be really handy to know whether the service is just unavailable for now, or whether it is not available at all.

Well, it did work yesterday. Perhaps it’s just offline for the long weekend because Support is closed and if something goes wrong your blog could be hooped for three days. Try again on Tuesday would be my recommendation.

Yep. I’ve now tried from a couple of locations and it won’t give me an option to purchase a domain name. Thanks for your help.
