Creating a (free) website with an existing domain name
-
I recently bought a domain from another website and I would like to get started on building my site. I thought that WordPress would allow me to do this for free, but when I click ‘Create Site’ -> ‘Use a domain I own’, it gives me two options: ‘Transfer your domain’ or ‘Connect your domain’. Selecting either forwards me to the paywall: ‘Choose the plan thats right for you’. Why is this happening and doesn’t it allow me to work on my site for free? What should I do now? How do I get started on building my site, without paying for a monthly subscription?
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi there,
Why is this happening and doesn’t it allow me to work on my site for free?
It is absolutely possible to build a free site.
When you reach the page where you’re prompted to pick a domain, just type anything and you’ll see a “skip the domain purchase” at the bottomHope that helps! :)

Thanks for your reply @amiteshg93
Unfortunately there is no such button on the screen…
I can only choose between: “Choose my domain later” and “Use a domain I own” on the right of the screen. -
Hey there,
Apologies for my previous reply.
As you have already purchased a domain, you need to choose “Use a domain I own”.
Why is this happening and doesn’t it allow me to work on my site for free?
The free plan isn’t capable of enabling you to connect your existing domain. To do this activity WordPress paid plan is required.
