Creating A Free WordPress Site

  Hi. I am currently taking a course on WordPress with an educational institution, and I need to create a free WordPress site. I have attempted to do so from the getting started tab, and from the create a free site tab inside my account. Both options fail to provide me with any free website/domain option (.wordpress.com) regardless of the many different names I attempted, and therefore, I am unable to create one. How do I fix this?

  When you’re on the page of the site creation process where you give a keyword or site name, the two very top suggested sites (the two ones highlighted in boxes at the top) are generally going to be paid domains like .blog or .com, but the first domain in the list below those will always be a free .wordpress.com domain. The free one suggested may not be what you were hoping for so you may have to tweak your keywords or search term to find something you would like, but a free option will always be the first one shown in that list.
