Creating a link -Stupid, but its not working for me

This is just a dumb question, I know it is. I’ve searched the forum and read many a post that should have explained it. To be clear, I want to make a link to any page (lets use google, since everyone knows and loves it) but the link consistently comes up as plain text. Now, I know how to use the link button in the html editor, but that requires an anchor. For instance, I would highlight the words “Here’s A Link to Google” and put in the link button http://www.google.com (since the http://) is already there.

I also know hot to use the link button in the visual editor. I don’t want any of that though, is it possible to just type:

http://www.google.com

Into an editor and have it set up like that. I don’t want to use any of the anchor text sometimes. I just want to type a link, post the page, and have it as a clickable link when I post. Why can’t I do that though?

To illustrate my point I posted an entry called “Test” with the text

http://www.google.com

On any other website it appears that typing that would create a clickable link to google. For me though, it’s just text. My site is: http://marksinthesand.wordpress.com

No big deal, just copy and paste this into your html editor,
“Here’s A Link to Google”
let me know if you still have problems,

Hmm – I didn’t understand your question at first but your example cleared it up for me. I tried it on my blog and you are right – it is just text. I hadn’t noticed that before

I wonder if it is intentional

oops, I actually created the link in the answer sorry, you will not be able to copy and paste from here but you can type this. I will install parenthesis to separate the code, you just make sure you remove them
(“(Here’s a link to Google)”
try this, it should work
good luck,

Hi, thanks for all the replies. I appreciate it. I guess I understand the work around, I can just type “Here’s a link to google” and then use the link button on the editor. I also guess it isn’t too much trouble. I was just wondering if it could be done the old fashioned way (i.e. just type the entire link out)

Would it be possible to contact support get their input or should I just live with it. I appreciate everyone’s input.

Terrific extensions! I’m not sure if I can find a use for them but I still installed them, thanks a lot. It doesn’t do the one thing I wanted it to, at least not that I could see. If you look at my page, I used google as an example, I was able to create links but of the two that linked successfully one said “Google” and then linked to the page (which isn’t what I wanted but is nifty) and the other looks like this:
Google
which would work except for the word Google, etc.

I just don’t see why it’s so hard to type a complete url and have it created as a clickable link. Once again, thanks for your ideas.

Your welcome…

I use the Copy As HTML Link 1.1 extension because the 2 other extensions
don’t serve the purpose like there sup post to “Copy As HTML Link”
was designed to replace the “Colt” extension because it was hard
to just make a text link…

With the Copy As HTML Link 1.1 you have to make sure you
have the URL you want in the address bar then you just
highlight the wording you want and the text will be
linked to the URL it’s alot easier than writing it out
|and it’s less time consuming…..

Here is a example of what Copy As HTML Link 1.1 can do….

Marks in the Sand

As you can see this text doesn’t take you to you’re home page…

P.S. if you decide to use the extension I mentioned
you’ll have highlight the text & right click and pick the option
[Copy As HTML Link]

Sorry for the long post I just wanted to clarify things up for you…

Sorry
