Creating a link to subscribe
-
I have the Follow Button on my blog but also want to provide a link I can use (e.g., in an email) that allows people to subscribe to my blog. There was a discussion about this a few years ago in the forum which included a link to more details. The link took me to a private blog and I didn’t get a response to my request to view it.
I’m wondering if anybody can help?
My blog is Sustaining Community
Thanks!

Hi sir,
I’m not sure if there is any other direct way into WP to provide what you need, but meanwhile I’ve managed a work around on it.
This link below is the link under the ‘Follow’ button into you blog.
Click here to follow my blogYou may be able to put this into any email you want to compose and then have your guests to start following your blog.
Again, this is a work around, if I find out any other more direct way to it I let you know here.
Hope it helps somehow.

Sorry, the link for you to input in an email is this: https://widgets.wp.com/follow/index.html#href=sustainingcommunity.wordpress.com&lang=en&blog=https%3A%2F%2Fsustainingcommunity.wordpress.com&show_blog_name=false
or just copy the link address, right-clicking with your mouse on the link I made above.
You may put this behind some clean words just like I did.
If you have any trouble on doing it, please tell me so I can help. -

I gave it a try and it seemed to work but only if I have a wordpress account. Is there a way to do if if somebody wants to subscribe by email?

re: wordpress.com blog subscriptions
All that’s required to follow any blog hosted by wordpress.COM is exactly what you were required to provide to register here, and that is a valid email address that the published posts can be sent to.
Here subscribers control their own subscriptions and frequency of receipt of posts from sites they subscribe to. We cannot act on their behalf. More to the point is the fact that when email addresses are submitted for the purpose of receiving blog updates that is the only purpose they can be used for.
You can set up email subscriptions here > Appearance > Widgets > Follow Blog Widget by using this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/
Widgets can be configured to appear only on certain pages (or be hidden on certain pages) by clicking on the Visibility button.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/#widget-visibilityWe have a blog subscription shortcode which you can make use of. The help page on it is right here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/blog-subscription-shortcode/ You can also include the subscription shortcode at the end of every post you publish.
The mailchimp and aweber pop-up subscription code provided by those source sites will not operate on WordPress.COM hosted sites. Staff have recently added the mailchimp widget for subscriptions and here is the link to the guide you must use https://en.support.wordpress.com/mailchimp

Thanks for that timethief – it helped me work out a way to do what I wanted.
I’ve created a page on my blog that allows people to subscribe to the blog (which also includes details of how to unsubscribe or manage the subscription). This means I can use the link to that page in emails or anything else. You can see the page at https://sustainingcommunity.wordpress.com/follow-me/.I used the subscription short code:
1. Open your Page or Post editor.
2. Click on the HTML or tab (rather than the Visual tab, which is usually open).
3. Paste [blog_subscription_form] into the box.
4. Save Draft, Update, or Publish. (More details here). Thanks again both of you.
