Creating a new home page

    Hi there,

We have a small problem. The home page for our wordpress site was previously and external web URL – don’t ask me why! – which has now been switched off. So we now have all the other pages working but a 404 any time someone searches for us or hits our home page. I believe that we can just build another home page and call it home but what happens to that page appearing on the root directory, ie:

If I create a page it will be – brunswickparkfriends.wordpress.org/home and not just brunswickparkfriends.wordpress.org.

Does this mean that the root will be blank or how will the wordpress site know to prioritise home – can we use an index suffix?

I don’t really want to create a new home until I know that our site has the proper structure for search engines.

    Many thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No. That is not possible. You are confusing wordpress.ORG where one can get free software only (not URLs and not hosting) and wordpress.COM. You have a wordpress.COM site.

WordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and have different username accounts, logins, features, run different versions of some themes with the same names, and have separate support documentation and separate support forums. Read the differences here http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

By default the Home page of every site is the URL of the site.

    http://brunswickparkfriends.wordpress.com/

You can create a Page https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/#create-a-new-page first and then designate it as a static front page.

This is a one or the other situation. You have two choices on any blog
    (1) All posts on the front page.
    (2) Or a static front page http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ and all posts on a different page.
