Creating a new website

I don’t know what to select when creating a new website. I don’t want to transfer my domain name and then have it affect the current website adversely.
I want to design the site first before anything is deactivated her transferred on the other side. Does that make sense?I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

In this case, it’s ok to select the free domain option (i.e. example.WordPress.com).
When the time is right, it’s possible to connect the domain as per these steps here: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
This will ensure the live site remains untouched.
I want to create a new website to bring ours into the 21st-century, which is a nonprofit vintage Thunderbird enthusiast club. So there will be information about meetings, newsletter, about us, upcoming events, etc. I also want to include visuals of some of the classic cars and provide images of the leader ship team.
Got it! A good place to start is with the selecting of the theme. Are there any sites out there you’re looking to emulate or copy? We can perhaps take a look and dissect what they’re using.
This will also help with next steps on how best to build add a newsletter and advertise meetings and events.
