    Hi there,

The pricing plans are per site, which means if you need the features for each independent website you’d like to create, you’ll need a separate plan for each site.

  • Hi there!

It’s important to mention that WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two completely independent entities.

WordPress.com is a cloud-based platform where we manage WordPress sites, whereas WordPress.org is stand-alone software that you can download and self-host with any other hosting.

You can find more details about WordPress.com and WordPress.org on this support page:

    https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/.

Since you have already purchased hosting with Siteground, you’ll be using the open-source WordPress software you download from WordPress.org. You won’t need any plan on WordPress.com.

If your idea was to manage your site here, on WordPress.com, though, you wouldn’t need the hosting on Siteground. You’ll want to choose any on our plans and map the registered domain as explained here:

    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/.

I know this may seem confusing, so let me know if you have more questions.

    Hi there again,

There is something I guess I should elaborate on, which can serve as an additional solution.

On WordPress.ORG , there is a page for recommended hosting companies:

    Hosting

Of the three hosting companies listed, Bluehost and SiteGround have multi-site plans.

Since you said you already have domain+hosting with SiteGround, you can easily upgrade to their multi-site plan (e.g. GrowBig) and allows to manage multiple sites on a single plan.

However, this will imply you’ll need to migrate your current site on WP.com to SiteGround in order to manage both sites at the same place. But your current site on WordPress.com is empty? so there is nothing to migrate.

So the summary of solutions are:

    1.) Manage both sites on WordPress.com :

i.) Create a new sub-domain site in your WP.com account (this is the site for your friend)
    https://wordpress.com/support/create-a-blog/#adding-a-new-site-or-blog-to-an-existing-account

ii.) For the existing domain registered with SiteGround, connect it to your WP.com account
    ( as staff-mckluskey indicated above )
    https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/

2.) Manage both sites on SiteGround :

i.) Use the multi-site plan on SiteGround.

2.) Create and build your own site originally from WP.com on this SiteGround plan.

Which is better for you? I don’t know since you didn’t elaborate what features you want for each site.

If they’re both just personal websites and you want to maximize savings, I would go with 1.) since you only need to pay for the domain.

    Hope this helps.

  • Just a few more points; sorry if this is overwhelming!

    – Currently, WordPress.com requires a plan for each separate site, even if the separate site is on a subdomain. If you host here, that could save you a little on registration fees, but not on the hosting plan.

    – Many other hosts do allow multiple sites per plan. Again, the main difference is that our hosting comes with WordPress support. So if your friend has WordPress questions, we’d be there.

    – If you want to manage your own WordPress installations with another host, but you want to run updates and whatnot from the same interface with one login, we do offer that here through Jetpack. Jetpack has quite a few features between its free and paid models, so if you’re interested in that you can find more at https://jetpack.com/

    I hope this helps!
