creating a new website without impacting current site

    We have an existing WP website, and will be totally revamping. I need to transfer the domain registrar over to WordPress and then we will begin to build a new site. Will our old/current site remain active until we are ready to publish the new site?

    Hi there,

    If you want the old site to remain online, you should leave transferring the domain till last.

    All sites on WordPress.com get a free WordPress.com or .blog subdomain when the site is created, that functions just like any regular subdomain, and your site is fully online and accessible at that subdomain (provided you set it to public). You’ll be able to select that domain while creating the site.

    Then you can build your site at that free address, even upgrade the site while still using the free address, and only switch the domain over to us once you’re ready to take the existing site offline.
