Creating a page

    I’ve been directed to your site by others claiming you’re able to meet my needs for a page, but I just don’t see it. If you can show me how it’s possible, I’d appreciate it.

    I want to make a page that has the same features as the following sites.

    gameinformer.com
    guitarworld.com

    By that I mean I want to include photos and possibly videos. I want a home page that will have buttons/links people can click on to take them to an article. That article will have a home button.

    I’m not planning on profiting from this. This is something for me to fill my time while I’m unemployed, and to talk about things I’m interested in. So, I’m not looking to pay for anything.

    Is it possible to do something like this using your free option? If so, could you tell me if there’s a template or something else I need in order to do it? Thanks!

    So you’re just starting out with WordPress.com, correct? In that case, I recommend going through these guides to quickly get up to speed with the basics:

    That will cover how to set up your site and create the two different types of content, posts(articles) and pages.

    Can you give us a bit more details on the specific features of those sites you’re looking to replicate?

    By that I mean I want to include photos and possibly videos

    You can add photos to any post or page on a WordPress site using the Image block:

    You can also embed videos from other sites like Youtube or Vimeo. Or you can upload videos directly to the media library on our Pro plan:

    As for a site menu, that will depend on which theme you decide to use – some themes include a menu by default while some require you to set a custom menu, and for some themes you set up the menu in the Customizer while in others you configure it using the Navigation block.     Absolutely – of the specifics you’ve mentioned thus far, only uploading video to the media library requires an upgrade. Embedding videos from Youtube can be done on a free site.

    You can see all the themes we have available on WordPress.com at Appearance ->Themes in the dashboard. The theme only controls how your site looks, not how it works/what features you have available to use. So when deciding on a theme, focus on how you want your site to look.

    Note that our newer themes, the ones listed under “Recommended” are fully customizable in the site editor, i.e. you can change just about any aspect of those themes to make it look the way you want. But this customizability makes them a bit more complex to set up at first.

    You can also look at our older, classic themes, if you’d prefer to start with something simpler to set up. But I should note we’re no longer developing those themes, and eventually they will be retired as they get outdated. But they should work for at least a few more years :)
