Creating a search page or link in lieu of widget

Is there a way to create a kind of search page or link in lieu of widget? The Dusk To Dawn theme has a full width template for pages, and I have recently utilized that style for upper level indexes of my blog. My theme ONLY allows widgets and menus on the sidebar. Because that template removes the side bar by design, I loose key features like the search widget. An apparent weakness of the theme. I added a rudimentary menu (links) on the page itself to easily access other top level sections. This overall gives a good differentiation from the regular post. Like I said, though, a search is still unavailable on a full width page.

note: this is a mature blog

A blog that is marked as Mature is excluded from public areas of the WordPress.com service. This means:

It is not eligible to be featured in Freshly Pressed
It will not appear in the Reader or other tag listings
It will not appear in Top Blogs listings, recent posts, or related posts listings on other blogs
The blog’s users cannot use that URL as a link in their WordPress.com Forums profile

Do you not have various options for pages?

    Multiple Layouts

You can place the sidebar either on the left or on the right depending on your preference in Appearance → Theme Options. Optionally hide the sidebar on pages using the “Full-width, no sidebar” template option when creating or editing a page.

    you noted:

“…search is still unavailable on a full width page…”

I’d suggest that you do not choose to use the “full-width, no sidebar” page template.

By definition of a “full width page” there would be no option for a sidebar. Having a sidebar would mean your page content would not fill the whole width of the page: there would be a container/box/space for a sidebar beside your content.

Note: some themes have full-width pages with widget areas in the footer, allowing a full-width page to have widgets below the content.
