Creating a Separate Category Archive Page
-
I’m presently using the Shaan theme for my blog, and I’d like to modify it so it can have a less cluttered and less blog-like appearance. I’d like to banish the Categories and Archives from the main page so my blog will look more like a traditional website and less like a blog (yes, I know blogs are websites, but you get my meaning), Specifically, I’d like to give the Category Archives their own page. WordPress automatically archives categories once they’re created (and thanks for that!) and presently the Categories and Archives are listed in the form of widgets on the main page; this is fine, except that we’ve been blogging for seven years now, and as such the Archives have now grown to the point of cluttering up the main page. Ideally, I’d like to put Category Archives on a separate page a la Home and About so visitors can click on that as opposed to the Categories taking up space on the main page (I may do the same for the Archives or just hide them altogether). I’ve read about a .php template, but I’m not sure I have this option as I’m currently using a .com rather than .org account. Is there a way for me to do this presently, or would I need to switch to a different theme and/or upgrade my blog?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
If you mean that you want a sperate static page that lists categories, please try following these steps for creating a site index:

Thanks, but that’s not what I had in mind. I’d prefer to keep the list of categories as hyperlinks which update themselves once a new post is published, not just create a static list. It may be less trouble to just leave the Categories list where it is; maybe instead I’ll just remove the Archive sidebar widget, or just hide it if possible, so the main page won’t look so cluttered.

Quick update: I followed the instructions you sent me to to create a static page detailing our site’s most popular recurring segments. It worked like a charm. Thanks so much!
