Creating a site without a domain

  Hi,
  I would like to start building my new website on WordPress and then when I’m ready to go live, I will buy the domain. How do I create a WordPress site without a domain? When I click to create a new site I cannot get past the screen to buy or connect a domain.

  Hi Ben,

  you’ll want to choose the free subdomain (ending with .wordpress.com, for example) – your site needs to have an address :)

  With a free subdomain and the free plan, you can work on your site until you’re ready to go live.

  I must be missing something – this is what I get when I click Create Site and I don’t see a free option:

  

  

  Where do I go to get the free option?

  On the first screenshot, have a look at the bottom of the image, you’ll see the free address – bennytest3.wordpress.com (you see that because what you typed is not available). Once you’ve chosen the free subdomain, on the next screen you should see a button that will allow you to continue with the free plan.

  If you don’t see it, make sure there is no adblocking extension on your browser – it has been reported to hide this button at times.
