Creating a username from a registered URL
-
Hi,
I’m trying to change the username of this account to a WordPress URL I have already registered from a different account.
In other words:
– from a different account, I registered xyzabc1234567.wordpress.com
–how do I now claim the username xyzabc1234567?When I try to change a username to that, it says it’s not available – rather than it already exists. So it’s not taken, and I own the URL of that – is there a way of claiming the username?
Many thanks!

Hi there,
If a username is unavailable it means that it’s either deleted or already taken. In the case of a deleted username, there’s no way for anyone else to claim it due to security reasons (impersonation etc.).

Many thanks fstat – much appreciated. Just to check – in this case, I’m 99.999% sure that the username was never created in the first place. As I can demonstrate that I own the URL I’m trying to claim the username for, is there any way that WordPress can assign me that username?
Many thanks again!

Unfortunately not. We can’t just take one person’s username and give it to someone else.
