  I am researching into the options for my website. If I take a plan with you is it likely I can make it look exactly like I want it to? And is the cost of the plan going to be the only cost I will incur? And is the amount I need to pay every year to keep my website running going to be the same as the amount paid to be able to fully customize? In short, what is the yearly cost I should budget if I choose to use wordpress as the platform for my website?

  Advanced customisation is available on both WordPress.com Premium and Business plans.

  Once you signup to your plan, the yearly cost stays the same – you can customize all you like!

  Thank you cobalteye! Can you tell me what happens if I decide to downgrade after a few years? (Just covering all the bases here..) would I loose my layout?

  If you chose to downgrade, I’ll make an educated guess that you would lose your customisations that you have made, such as custom CSS.

  Buying only a Premium theme might also be an option for you. Here are the currently available Premium themes: https://wordpress.com/themes/type/premium/

  While you wouldn’t be able to customize the Premium theme without a Personal or Business plan upgrade, the theme itself (as a standalone purchase) would be available to you for the life of the site on WordPressdotcom. See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/premium-themes/

  FWIW-all available Premium themes are included in the Business plan upgrade and, yes, if you downgrade or let your Business plan lapse, you would be switched over to a non-Premium theme and lose your customizations.
