  I own a domain purchased on GoDaddy for 3 years. I’d like to start a blog using wordpress. I am a complete beginner. I do not understand what’s involved in transferring the domain or mapping the domain. What is the costs for each? And why would I choose transfer or mapping? Thank you.

  You will need to upgrade to a paid plan.

  To be able to use your domain with your WordPress.com site you need to upgrade to a plan. Then can either transfer the domain or keep it with GoDaddy and map it here. For more information read this article on the WordPress.com Support page:
