Creating a website for blogging
-
I need a domain for blogging, what is the difference between choosing .blog and .org when creating a domain name.
Also while trying to setup a domain, i saw an option of paying $22/year. If i choose this option, does it mean i have authority over the website or wordpress dictates activities on the site? -
Hi –
WordPress.com will never take authority of your site. Even on free sites. You own the content, not us.
These are the different hosting plan options: https://wordpress.com/pricing/
You’ll need to pick one of those upgraded plans (personal or higher).
As for the domain, that’s completely up to you. If you’re blogging then you can probably get a more premium .blog domain than you could a .com one – because there are less of them. Does that make sense?

One more question please. Am I also allowed to run adverts with no obligation to wordpress. I just need clarifications. Thank you.

Hi there,
Am I also allowed to run adverts with no obligation to wordpress. I just need clarifications.
You can enroll in our own advertisement program called WordAds. You can read more here:
If you want to display ads from other networks such as Google Ads, then you’ll need to upgrade to the Business plan.
What are the benefits of having a custom domain?
A custom domain is shorter than a .wordpress.com address and therefore it’s more memorable and unique.
If you have any other questions, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.
