Creating a white out effect on my images to match my portfolio page

    I am using the Sketch theme. On my home page (www.emmasteed.co.uk) I have the jetpack portfolio page and then I have a secondary portfolio page (http://www.emmasteed.co.uk/my-portfolio/) on my website which I am using to have all of my work on. On the home page when you hover over the images it whites out the image. I would like to add this effect to the images on my second portfolio page. Can someone please give me the instructions on how to do this?
