Creating an inside blog/post page

Hello,
I’ve been trying to figure out how to make a page devoted to my posts, a blog page, if you will. While the front page posting works well enough, I’d like to have an inside page for all posts, with the ability to search by category. I was hoping to find a plugin or shortcode, but after a few hours of getting nowhere, I’m here asking all of you. Hope someone has the answers I’m looking for! And to clarify, I’d like to keep my homepage (and remove the posts from it), as it has the slider/featured images that come with minimaze, the theme I’m using. My goal is to assign a new page ( richardhudon.com/blog ) as my primary posting area. I’d like to have the posts broken down into categories (which I could always do with sidebar if all else fails) and have the top 10 recent posts as the body of the page. I mention this, because one of the articles I read suggested going under settings/reading and changing the front page and post page options. Unfortunately, going that route I’d have to forgo my homepage, which I’d rather avoid.
