I need to create an unlinked heading. I know I need to add a custom link and set the label to include #; but I don’t know what a custom link is or how to go about adding one and where is the URL that I put it in? Thank you

Howdy and welcome to WordPress.com!
To make sure we’re on the same page, you’re wanting to add a top-level menu item on your navigation menu that doesn’t link to anything?
If so, when editing your menu, under the list of pages on the left that you can add to the menu, click on Links and you can add it there.
You can remove the http:// and place just the # and the title for the menu item. It would still technically contain a link, but it won’t go anywhere if clicked.
If we aren’t on the same page, please let me know and we’ll clear it up! Welcome again!

Hi there,
Yes we are on the same page!
…… except I don’t think you realize what a novice I am!
Please could you give me really precise instructions. For example, where do I go to edit my menu? Under “Pages”? Whereabouts under “Pages” or under “Menu”? And then where is Links on those? Which box do I go to remove the http://
Please could you write the instructions starting from Go to the dashboard/go to….? etc….right through to the very end…
….so that I can follow them.
Apologies for being dense! Thank you

Oh no! Thanks for your patience.
- Edit your menu by going to the Appearance->Menus page (direct link: https://walkintomyparlourdotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php )
- You’ll see a Navigation Menu with a large list of items with grey boxes. You’re in the right place.
- On the left, you’ll see a blue box of “Pages” with some options to check. Below that, you’ll see “Links” Click Links.
- It’ll shift around to show you a Links box with two fields—URL and Link Text
- Remove the http:// and insert just a #
- Set the Link Title to whatever you want to see on your page.
- Click Add to Menu
- It will add the link at the bottom of the menu (the grey boxes)
- You can then click and drag that box to where you want it in the menu tree. Notice how it can intent a little more right of the item above it—that’s to indicate a submenu.
- You can move around the other items to go “under” it in the menu by dragging the item below it and slightly to the right so it indents.
- Rinse and repeat. You can add more Links, or either Pages or Categories following the same basic process.
If that was just about clear as mud, our support doc at http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/ has a screencast video of what it should look like for you.
Please do let me know if you have more questions and I’m sorry for speaking gibberish before! :-)
