Creating/Approving Pages

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I was added to my bosses website and he wanted me to find out if there is a way for me to create pages without them being published, and then for him to approve them to be published. He doesn’t want to give me full access to building the website as he has spent many many hours on it and if I were to accidentally delete a page or something it would be really bad.

So he would like if I could ‘draft’ new pages for him and then he could actually add them to the website? Is this possible?

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

WordPress has a “Contributor” user role built in – contributors can draft new posts, but they can’t upload media files, nor can they publish. However, Contributors can only draft (blog) posts, not static pages. That’s the user role you currently have on the site.

But there are plugins you can use to modify existing user roles, that you should be able to use on this site as it’s on our Business Plan. So if your employer installs one of these plugins, they can then either modify the Editor user role to not have publishing capabilities, or modify the Contributor role to be able to draft pages as well as posts.

I did some searching and found these two plugins listed on the User Roles support page over on WordPress.org:

    User Role Editor

    WPFront User Role Editor

I can’t guarantee these will work on WordPress.com, but all else being equal they should. For help installing them, ask your boss to contact live chat support via their account at https://wordpress.com/help/contact.

For help with the plugins themselves, you’ll need to ask in the support forums for the plugin you decide to use.
