Creating Database questions

    Hello,

    I want to create our own database and I found the mention of MySQL DB for the sites, available for business subscriptions. My questions are:

    1. Is MySQL the only option or there are others e.g. SQL Server, Postgres etc.
    2. I am in the process of building my site which can take few months and for cost savings, do not want to get business subscription to start with. So if I build the MySQL database on my windows machine, would that be portable/compatible to the WordPress environment because I don’t know what kind of Servers are in use here. After I have built it in Windows, later on I don’t want a situation like, oh you can’t get that uploaded to our environment.

    I will really appreciate the clarifications.
