creating gallery from pre-posted images

Is there a way to create a gallery from photos that have been previously uploaded and attached to a post or page? I can create a gallery by uploading photos anew each time. But is there a way to re-use the photos already in the media library to create a new gallery on a different page or post? Thanks.

Media is an area that we’re working to make better. It should change in the future, but right now, you can only create a gallery from photos which are attached to a post or page already.
There is a way to attach images if they are unattached because you uploaded them through the media library directly:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/media/unattached-files/If the images are already attached to another post, there is not a way to move them, and so re-uploading them is the best route.
There is a way to display a gallery from different post. It won’t allow you to mix and match images from various posts, but if it works for you to include a gallery from an existing post, you can use the “id” field in the gallery shortcode:
