Creating image gallery from blog posts
-
Hi,
I am new to wordpress.com and am hoping to use this as medium to share my travel photos with family. Is there a way for me to create a photo gallery (as a menu option) with photos from my blog posts? In other words, how can I collectively present all my photos that have been published in posts in one place? Please advise, and thank you!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
When you insert a gallery into a post or page, the HTML code for the gallery will include an ID for each item (image) in the gallery. You many collect these ID numbers from each post, and combine them to create a collective gallery of images. However, if you have or intend to have many posts, then this may be impractical.
Another approach would be to simply create a gallery selecting each image from your media library that appears in posts. Images inserted into your posts that have been uploaded to the site will be gathered in the site’s media library.

While the options that @musicdoc1 gave will give you the most exact results (only photos), you will need to manually update the Gallery page you create each time you want to add new photos.
Another option which will automatically update is to add a Category specific to Posts with travel photos and then create a Category page named Gallery in your site nav bar.

I think category pages could be used effectively in this case, but not quite so easily as you’ve described. A category page displays posts. How can a category page be made to display a single gallery of images, whether or not the images are drawn from all posts in the travel category? If each post is a gallery, and only a gallery, then a collection of these in a category page might work.

@musicdoc1 – yes, that is true. A Category page displaying Posts wouldn’t be one single gallery of images.
How the Category/Gallery page itself would appear would indeed depend on what is published in those individual Posts; text and photos or only photos; individual images or individual images on separate pages using pagination or images displayed in a gallery feature.
However, I thought I should mention the Category page option. That’s one of the beautiful things about using WordPress. :) Cheers.
