Creating Media Folders
-
I can see this topic has come up several times albeit now closed. It seems very basic to organise media into folders but WordPress doesn’t allow it and you cannot install the free plugin unless you go to a business plan. Do the WordPress designers read these messages?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Thanks, good to know someone is reading this stuff! Organising media into folders seems so basic and much better for deleting old stuff giving up space to WordPress. The absense of this function might be the reason I go for WordPress.org instead.

Hi @peterstowvillage, WordPress.com is a shared environment, and we do not allow installing third-party themes or plugins for security reasons. Business sites undergo a series of structural changes to allow that, and that is why you’d need Business plan to install a plugin.
As for organizing the media library – I’ll add your vote to the list of possible future improvements :).

Oh thanks, I spent hours trying to figure out how to create a folder so I could organize my photos only to discover we lost the freedom to create folders because it’s a specialize feature – sigh – I’ll have to learn to get by without them, lol

To be clear, media organization has never been an option without a plugin, so we haven’t removed any functionality.
It’s quite the opposite, the recent addition of Business and eCommerce plans at WordPress.com finally allows the installation of plugins, which finally brings media organization to WordPress.com.

Hi guys!
I have the same problem, the lack of possibility to organize the photos into folders. Please add my “vote” for adding this feature- media folder organization.
Thank you,
Cristian
