Creating new account with a previously-used-but-then-renamed username
-
A question regarding the following scenario:
[1] user creates WordPress.com account with username ‘A’.
[2] user changes his username from ‘A’ to ‘B’. According to WordPress.com policy: “Once you change your username you will not be able to change it back and the old name will not be available for anyone else to use.”
[3] user wishes to create a *new*, *additional*, account using the old username ‘A’.Why does the system not allow this? The user is not trying to “change it back” from ‘B’ to ‘A’! Likewise, I understand that username ‘A’ “will not be available for anyone *else* to use.” However, in this case it is the *original user* — not “anyone else” — that wishes to reuse the original username. Why should this not be allowed???

Anyway to flag this thread for for Staff attention?
My understand is that, without paying for support, there is no way to to contact them directly with “regular” questions such as these.

That’s correct. You can flag it “modlook” for their attention or email support at wordpress dot com.

I am sorry, but as stated, the previous username cannot be used once you have changed it.

Thanks, staff-blorbo for the clear-cut answer, even if it is not the one that I would have liked to hear.
I would suggest, then, that the wording of the WordPress.com policy quoted above be slightly fixed:
In the part that says “and the old name will not be available for anyone else to use,” the word “else” should be deleted.
